  • Last week’s theme was all about what the immune system is and how to boost it so we can be better prepared to fight bacteria and virus infections that can cause serious illness conditions.

    The holiday season can be the cause of a lot of stress for body and mind for many reasons. Either because you are traveling, or for those who have children, you want to be sure that you are prepared for any situation, or because you will have the whole family at home and that could be stressful. There is panoply of reasons that could affect the holidays.

    This week's article is designed to give ideas on how to best cope with stress during the holidays using essential oils, as well as being perfectly prepared in case of an emergency while being away from home.

    1. Black Pepper Essential Oil

Tea Tree oil has strong antiseptic properties and the ability to treat wounds. This oil has been documented in medical studies and functions to treat acne, bacterial infections, chicken pox, respiratory infections, fungal infections, insect repellent and natural deodorants.

    4. Lemon Essential Oil

      Lemon essential oil is extracted from lemons, with the botanical name Citrus limonum. Lemon is anti-bacterial, and can be used in household cleaning products. Like Juniper Berry, lemon can also stimulate the immune system. With time changes, new foods, and other experiences can cause upset stomachs when traveling you can add a few drops of lemon essential oil to a glass of water and drink to help your discomfort. 

      It is also very beneficial when dealing with a sore throat, add a few drops of lemon essential oil to hot water and honey and sip to reduce sore throat pain. Inhaling lemon essential oil or applying it to the soles of the feet helps with seasonal allergies, asthma, and related respiratory issues. If you travel with an essential oil diffuser, diffusing lemon essential oil is another way to attack allergies head on. 

      Since citrus oils can cause skin sensitivity it is recommended to not have sun exposure after applying a citrus essential oil.

    5. Frankincense Serrata Essential Oil

      This essential oil has calming properties, and is useful for visualizing, enhancing one's spiritual connection and helping to deal with stress. Helpful when you want to improve your skin’s health, whether is dry skin, reducing the signs of aging, or the appearance of stretch marks and scars. 

      Frankincense Serrata essential oil is highly recommended for women due to its abilities to help regulate your menstrual cycle; help alleviate symptoms of menstruation and menopause. 

      Very effective to boost your immune system, especially when you are traveling by airplane and want to keep germs away from you and your family, and it can also relax during a flight working as a natural sedative.

    6. Rose Alba Essential Oil

      Rose oil has a strong floral aroma. Rose Alba essential oil has been known for being used for beauty skin products such as anti-aging. It helps to refine, tightened and refresh the skin. It also has amazing relaxing properties by working straight on the emotional heart; calms and soothes the mind and emotions. It helps melt away the stresses of a hectic travel day and recharges me for the following day.

    7. Bergamot Essential Oil

      It’s well known for its very sweet aroma. Bergamot essential oils is often used as a natural deodorant, antibiotic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, analgesic, antidepressant, soothing disinfectant and heat-reducing agents. It can also help to reduce traveling anxiety by adding 1 drop on your wrist, hanky or scarf. 

      This essential oil is also well known by numerous of health benefits including aiding in sleep and raising spirits.

    8. Eucalyptus Essential Oil
      Eucalyptus Essential Oil
      This essential oil has a refreshing aroma. It’s used in steam inhalation or inhalers to treat cold & flu; to help break down mucus; to overcome a respiratory infection; as a fever reliever and antiseptic; antibacterial and antiviral.

      Eucalyptus essential oil works well as an insect repellent, especially on long hikes under dense canopies. With essential oils, a little goes a long way, but one has to be sure it doesn’t have adverse effects, so a patch test might be a good idea before regular usage.

    9. Citronella Essential Oil
      Many are the applications and usages of this essential oil. For its antiseptic, antimicrobial and antifungal properties it can be used to sterilize air; as a mosquito repellent; to treat pain in joints; reduce inflammation and infections.

    Traveling comes with a few unexpected events we can all relate to. Headaches, jet lag, sore muscles, bug bites, exhaustion, and a wide variety of stomach pains can all make your vacation a bit less than pleasant. Instead of waiting to see if anything happens, which eventually will especially if you travel with children, plan ahead with your essential oils. There are many ways to use essential oils wherever you are that will allow you to always be prepare for any situation. If you prefer topical application you can always use small sized roll-on bottles, spray glass bottles where you will dilute pure essential oils with a carrier oil or simply filtered water. You can also apply the essential oils on necklaces, bracelets or other natural jewellery to serve as aromatherapy.

    These are few ideas to help you stay safe and at the same time have what you need while you are away from home. Plan ahead and be wise!
